Elliot Nye 鈥� resolving to do his best

Senior solicitor Elliot Nye (14193) revels in the challenges of resolving commercial disputes, inspired by the trials and tribulations of many home and business owners battling for payouts in post-earthquake Christchurch.
鈥淚t was all the scraps facing families and businesses following the earthquakes that sparked a fire within me to become a commercial litigation specialist,鈥� he says.
Speaking to more than 40 Years 11鈥�13 students at a Career Convos session, the Old Boy has shared his career pathway while highlighting the importance of finding a mentor and making the most of the time at Christ鈥檚 College.
鈥淚 love that every day brings a challenge in my role as a senior solicitor with Anthony Harper in Christchurch,鈥� he says. 鈥淚n case management, you can be dealing with anything 鈥� from insurance work to construction disputes or corporate advisor roles.鈥�
Arriving at College in 2010, Elliot 鈥渙nly has positive things to say鈥� about his schooling, appreciating that an understanding of teamwork and lifelong friendships have all contributed to his achievements.
鈥淔rom the start, you need to set ambitious goals and keep chasing your dreams,鈥� he says. 鈥淟aw is all about the people. Build good relationships for the greater good and establish those friendships and connections.
鈥淚n Year 9, I told my mother on Athletics Day that I planned to set a 100m record in Year 13, and I did after training for five years to reach that goal. I also was Head of Chapel Choir in Year 13 and, as a member of Schola Cantorum, I appreciated the power of teamwork. Being in the choir, I saw the importance of a large group of boys working together for a common purpose.鈥�
Elliot also acknowledges the formative roles of teachers Ben Vink and Neil Nicholson in his own life, with the former 鈥渟trongly encouraging me to consider law as a career鈥� and the latter having a positive impact as the then Housemaster of Rolleston House.
Heading to the University of Canterbury in 2015, Elliot gained his Bachelor of Laws and joined White Fox & Jones. He moved to Anthony Harper 鈥� a law firm established in 1865 鈥� in 2022 and was appointed senior solicitor this year. Today, his future is firmly set in Christchurch, with both Elliot and his wife, Hannah, embracing their next chapter.
